Switzerland striker Stéphane Chapuisat will play on for another season at BSC Young Boys.

Swiss international Stéphane Chapuisat is to put his retirement on hold after agreeing to play for one more season with BSC Young Boys.

Prolonged career
Chapuisat, 34, planned to retire after UEFA EURO 2004™ but will prolong his career after Young Boys secured second place in the Swiss league as runners-up to FC Basel 1893, earning a place in the UEFA Champions League second qualifying round.

'Enormous challenge'
Chapuisat, a Champions League winner with BV Borussia Dortmund in 1997, said: "Naturally I want to be there when we play in Champions League qualification. I never thought we could achieve that with Young Boys. Now it is an enormous challenge.

New stadium
"I am pleased to have the chance of playing in the team in the final year before going into the new Wankdorf Stadium." Young Boys will move into their new 32,000 stadium for the start of the 2005/06 season.

Leading scorer
Chapuisat, who is expected to earn his 100th cap for Switzerland in a warm-up friendly for EURO 2004™ against Germany in Basel on 2 June, is the leading scorer in the Swiss league with 20 goals. He struck once in qualifying for Portugal.
