Bayer 04 Leverkusen beat SV Werder Bremen 6-2 to set up a UEFA Champions League decider against VfB Stuttgart.

Bayer 04 Leverkusen gained an extraordinary 6-2 win at Bundesliga champions SV Werder Bremen to set up a last-day decider against VfB Stuttgart as only two points separate the teams in the race for Germany's remaining UEFA Champions League berth.

Leverkusen cruise
Fourth-placed Leverkusen were three goals up within 21 minutes, Franca scoring twice either side of a Daniel Bierofka effort. Bremen gave themselves hope after the break as Mladen Krstajic struck on 51 minutes and Ailton added his 28th goal of the season two minutes later. But Franca completed his treble just after the hour and Dimitar Berbatov and Oliver Neuville extended the lead.

Stuttgart delight
FC Bayern München in second are only three points ahead of Leverkusen after a 3-1 defeat at Stuttgart. Imre Szabics shot the home side into a 19th-minute lead and scored again early in the second half. Kevin Kuranyi added another on 54 minutes to ensure Claudio Pizarro's late strike was only consolation.

Final shake-up
Bayern are now just a point ahead of Stuttgart, but will enter the Champions League because the third and fourth-placed sides meet on the final day. The eventual runners-up will join Bremen in the group stage with the third-placed side in the third qualifying round.

UEFA Cup race
The fourth and fifth-placed sides will compete in the UEFA Cup, and BV Borrussia Dortmund today overtook VfL Bochum 1848 in the latter berth. Dortmund came from behind for a 3-1 win against VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach. Bochum, however, dropped a point behind as Eintracht Frankfurt staved off immediate relegation with a 3-2 victory.

Kaiserslautern danger
Eintracht are now within three points of fourth-bottom 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Their 4-1 defeat at FC Schalke 04 left their goal difference worse off than both Eintracht and the other side that can still escape the bottom three, TSV 1860 München, who are also three points behind Kaiserslautern after drawing 1-1 with Hertha BSC Berlin following a last-minute penalty miss from Francis Kioyo.

Köln consolation
That point means Hertha are safe, while relegation worries have also disappeared for Mönchengladbach, Hannover 96 - who had a goalless draw with VfL Wolfsburg - and SC Freiburg, whose game with Hamburger SV also finished 0-0. 1. FC Köln are long relegated but their final home game in the top-flight ended with an impressive 4-0 win against a FC Hansa Rostock side who suffered two first-half dismissals.
