'End of an era'
"My time at La Real has come full circle," the 31-year-old left-back declared at a press conference on Tuesday. "It is the end of an era". Real sports manager Roberto Olabe added that Aranzabal's departure would, "leave a void at the club in sporting and human terms".
Real debut
Aranzabal has been capped 27 times for Spain since making his debut against Armenia in 1995. He was included in Javier Clemente's Spain side for the FIFA World Cup finals in 1998 but did not feature during the tournament. After spending two seasons with Real's reserves, he made the jump to the first team in 1993.
Second-place finish
The son of former Spanish international defender José Agustín Aranzabal 'Gaztelu', who won the league with Real in 1980/81, Aranzabal junior played as key role in their second-place finish in 2002/03.
