'Regret decision'
"The Board voted unanimously to keep Frédéric Antonetti, but not Villanova. The Board wish to thank Frédéric Antonetti for achieving last season's goals with AS Saint-Etienne and regret his decision to leave. He will advise the club on the reorganisation of its technical staff," the club said in a statement.

Antonetti guided the ten-times French champions and 1976 UEFA Champions Cup runners-up back to Ligue 1 for the first time since 1999.
