Swedish international goalkeeper Andreas Isaksson, who has helped his country to the quarter-finals at UEFA EURO 2004™, has joined Stade Rennais FC from Djurgårdens IF for €1.7m.
Cech replacement
The 22-year-old has ended months of speculation by joining Swedish team-mate Kim Källström at the French club to replace Czech Republic goalkeeper Peter Cech, who has already agreed to move to English Premiership outfit Chelsea FC.
'Best offer'
"We didn't have that many offers, but amongst the ones we had this was by far the best one," said Djurgården chairman Tommy Jacobsson, reflecting on the relatively low sum paid for the goalkeeper. "I think things would have been different if he had signed a new two-year deal with us, but he didn't want to do that, and his contract runs out after the current season, so this is as good as it gets for us.”
Tourray joins Djurgården
Djurgården, who were seventh in the Allsvenskan when the summer break arrived, will replace Isaksson with Gambian international Dembo Tourray, who has been on loan at Norwegian side Vålerenga Fotball this season.
