Rotor turn to Shevchenko

Members

SC Rotor Volgograd have named Vitali Shevchenko as their new coach to replace Valeriy Yaremchenko.

Struggling SC Rotor Volgograd have named Vitali Shevchenko as their new coach, just days after Valeriy Yaremchenko left the post.

Relegation worries
Shevchenko takes the job with Rotor languishing at the foot of the Russian Premier-Liga. After 14 games they have had just one victory  and currently lie six points adrift of their nearest rivals, and eight points from relegation safety. Shevchenko's predecessor, the former FC Shakhtar Donetsk coach Yaremchenko, was appointed in April but was unable to change the fortunes of the beleaguered Russian club.

Vast experience
Former Hapoel Beer-Sheva FC and FC Torpedo Moskva coach Shevchenko began the season at FC Rostov, but parted company with the club after they gained just three points from their first six matches. The 52-year-old has a wealth of experience though, and has a Bolivian Championship winner's medal to his name, which he won as coach of FC Bolivar in 1992.
