News round-up: Hertha BSC Berlin have signed Brazilian midfield player Gilberto da Silva Melo.

Hertha BSC Berlin have signed Brazilian midfield player Gilberto da Silva Melo from AD São Caetano for an undisclosed fee.

High hopes
The 28-year-old, who had a spell at FC Internazionale in 1998/99, has high hopes of success in the Bundesliga. "I am very grateful to get the chance to play in Europe again and hopefully I can help the side to the title," Gilberto said after agreeing a four-year deal. The move follows the departure of Bart Goor to Feyenoord.

Spurs' new Defendi
Another Brazilian player apparently bound for Europe is the highly rated 18-year-old Rodrigo Defendi. English Premiership club Tottenham Hotspur FC have agreed a €900,000 fee with Cruzeiro EC for the defender who is expected to sign a four-year contract next week.

Bologna signings
After landing Romanian defender Valentin Nastase from US Palermo earlier this week, Bologna FC have signed two more players. The former SSC Napoli, Perugia AC, AC Milan and Derby County FC player Daniele Daino has signed a two-year deal. The 25-year-old spent last season at Ancona Calcio. Meanwhile, midfield player Jonatan Binotto has agreed a one-year deal and will return for his second spell at the club he served between 1998 to 2001.

Turkish delight
Bulgarian International goalkeeper Zdravko Zdravkov has joined Turkish side Rizespor on a free transfer. Zdravkov, who played for Bulgaria at UEFA EURO 2004™, left Bulgarian Cup winners PFC Litex Lovech at the end of last season. "I had several other options. I had offers from Russia, Ukraine and Turkey, but Rizespor's offer was the best," the 33-year-old said. Zdravkov has also had spells in Turkey at Istanbulspor AS and Adanapsor AS.
