Getafe get their man

Young coach
The 39-year-old has been persuaded to join Getafe from his current post as coach of Real Madrid CF's youth team, and will be the youngest man in charge of a top-flight side in Spain at the start of the coming season. He replaces Josu Uribe who won the club promotion before resigning two weeks ago.

Second choice
Initially, Getafe had tried to persuade former Madrid striker Hugo Sánchez to quit his job at Pumas UNAM in Mexico to take over at the club. However, when Sánchez turned them down, the club's board of directors chose Sánchez Flores, who will be officially unveiled at the club's Coliseo Alfonso Pérez stadium on Thursday.

Meteoric rise
Getafe, a modest club based in the outskirts of Madrid, climbed their way to the top division in three seasons. Gaining promotion to the Segunda División in 2001/02, the team finished eleventh in 2002/03 but finished last season as runners-up with 76 points.

New deal for Alberto
The new coach's final squad is also becoming clearer. Midfield player Alberto Ruíz Largo has signed a two-year contract extension with the club. A mainstay in last season's promotion-winning side, Alberto scored six times in 39 appearances.

Amaya loan extended
Meanwhile, central defender Iván Amaya will spend another season on loan at Getafe after they reached an agreement with Club Atlético de Madrid. Amaya, 25, is tied to Atlético until June 2007 but spent last season on loan with Getafe. Amaya is joined by his ex-Atlético team mate, Sergio Sánchez, who joined Getafe on a free transfer.

Goalkeeper joins
Finally, Getafe have also announced the signing of goalkeeper Francisco Javier Sánchez Broto from Real Murcia CF on a one-year deal. The 32-year-old's previous clubs include Celtic FC, Livingston FC, Airdrieonians FC, Málaga CF, CD Castellón, Villarreal CF and Real Zaragoza.
