Esbjerg fB have signed goalkeeper Jan Hoffmann on a one-year contract as understudy to Lars Winde.

Fight for place The 33-year-old had been without a club after ending his stay at FC Nordsjælland, who were unwilling to extend his contract. Hoffmann played 26 times for Nordsjælland last season but is well aware that first-team chances may be limited at Esbjerg.
Point to prove "I realise that, at least at the beginning, I will only be substitute to Lars," Hoffmann said. "It will then be up to me to convince the coaches that I am worth counting on." Prior to joining Nordsjælland, Hoffmann had spent the previous six seasons with Akademisk Boldklub.
Important game Esbjerg will not be able to field Hoffmann in this Saturday's UEFA Intertoto Cup third-round second leg at home against FK Vetra. The sides drew 1-1 in last weekend's first leg in Lithuania and Hoffmann could be registered for the semi-finals should Esbjerg progress.
