Happy birthday for Ossipov

Members

FC Torpedo Moskva remain a point ahead of FC Zenit St. Peterburg after a busy weekend of Russian action.

Ossipov winner
Serguei Ossipov gave Torpedo the lead on Sunday with a first-half free-kick, a day after his 26th birthday. Their bottom-placed opponents hit the post twice, but could not equalise.

Denisov inspired Zenit
Zenit had topped the table on Saturday night after a 3-1 victory at FC Kuban Krasnodar. Midfield player Igor Denisov was the star for Zenit, setting up Andrei Arshavin's opener on 43 minutes then doubling the advantage eight minutes into the second half. Although the home side pulled a goal back, Denisov was tripped in the area with 24 minutes left and Aleksandr Spivak converted from the spot.

Lokomotiv climb
FC Lokomotiv Moskva climbed to third place as they overtook FC Krylya Sovetov Samara with a 1-0 home victory. It took until the 79th minute for Dmitri Khokhlov to head in Dmitri Loskov's cross to claim the points. Both Lokomotiv, who have a game in hand, and Krylya Sovetov have 28 points, six behind Torpedo, as do PFC CSKA Moskva who beat FC Amkar Perm 3-0 with Yuri Zhirkov scoring twice.

Dinamo defeated
FC Dinamo Moskva's plummet down the table continued as their winless run stretched to seven matches with a 2-0 loss at FC Rostov. FC Moskva moved above Dinamo and are eleventh after a 1-0 success against FC Rubin Kazan.
