Five-place jump
Having claimed their first league victory since April against FC Alania Vladikavkaz last Thursday, Spartak climbed five places in the table to eighth with all three points against Rostov. The win also removed the disappointment of their UEFA Intertoto Cup defeat by Villarreal CF at the weekend.
Pavlyuchenko winner
Recently-signed Russian international Dmitri Alenichev, who won the UEFA Champions League with FC Porto last season, played for Spartak for the first time, but his side looked like being held by their fellow strugglers until three minutes into added time when Roman Pavlyuchenko scored the only goal.
