Felicio breakthrough
After a goalless first leg in Belgium the Portuguese side were quick to seize the attacking initiative at Estádio Dr. Magalhães Pessoa and took the lead midway through the first half as midfield player Felicio scored the opening goal of the tie in the 23rd minute.
Edson effort
The home team took a significant step towards the final at the end of the half, with Brazilian defender Edson doubling their lead, and successfully preserved their advantage in the second half.
Lille delight
Their final opponents LOSC converted a 3-0 first-leg advantage into a 4-1 overall success against NK Slaven Belupo after the second game between the sides finished all square in Croatia. Pero Pejic gave the home side some early hope with a fifth-minute goal, but the French side recovered their poise and effectively booked their final place seven minutes after half-time thanks to Vladimir Manchev's equaliser.
Spanish success
With FC Schalke 04 meeting FC Slovan Liberec in another Intertoto final, the third contest for a UEFA Cup place will be an all-Spanish affair as Club Atlético de Madrid booked a date with Villarreal CF. The Spanish side were well-placed to progress after a 3-1 win at OFK Beograd, and so it proved as goals early in each half earned victory tonight.
Torres on target
International striker Fernando Torres opened the scoring in the Spanish capital in the tenth minute and a meeting with Villarreal - who also qualified from this competition a year ago and went on to reach the UEFA Cup semi-finals before falling to eventual winners Valencia CF - was duly wrapped up by Carlos Aguilera's goal six minutes into the second half.
