Schalke handed Cziommer bill

FIFA has ordered FC Schalke 04 to pay over €450,000 in compensation for the transfer of Simon Cziommer.

Seven years
The matter went to a tribunal after the clubs failed to agree a development fee for the player who spent seven years at the Dutch team before moving to Schalke in 2003. Schalke had offered €150,000, while Twente wanted €630,000.

Development fee
FIFA has now insisted on a €460,000 fee - €90,000 per annum for the five years of his development, plus €10,000 for his first season at the club when he was under 15. However, FIFA ruled there was no money due for Cziommer's final term at Twente by which time he was a first-team regular.

Back on loan
The matter is not over entirely as the sides have still not decided on a transfer fee for the player. Ironically, the 23-year-old Cziommer failed to make an impact at Schalke. He returned to Twente midway through last season on a loan which has since been extended to cover the 2004/05 campaign.
