The newly promoted Central Jutland side retained their advantage at the top with their best performance to date, overcoming last season's third-placed club Esbjerg fB 2-1 at the Silkeborg Stadion.

Czech champions FC Baník Ostrava, who lost their league opener to FK Teplice and then suffered a 5-0 defeat by Bayer 04 Leverkusen in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round, claimed a point at FK Jablonec 97 despite being reduced to ten men.
Long-ranger
Baník went behind to Josef Lastovka's long-range shot and were then weakened by Miroslav Matusovic's dismissal. Twenty minutes before the end, however, Michal Papadopulos equalised with his first league goal since returning from a loan spell at Arsenal FC.
Jun swings it
AC Sparta Praha came from behind to win at 1. FK Drnovice. The league newcomers led 2-0 at half-time through Jirí Adamec and a Tomás Sivok own goal, but Tomás Jun came off the bench to score twice, with Milan Pacanda also registering for Sparta.

The Swedish First Division is becoming a four-horse race, with pre-season favourites Malmö FF still leading the way despite losing 3-2 at GIF Sundsvall. Trailing by two points are Halmstads BK, who drew 1-1 with champions Djurgårdens IF who remain in the bottom half of the table.

Revitalised IFK Göteborg beat Örebro SK 1-0 to move to within four points of Malmö. Hammarby went down 3-1 at Helsingborgs IF and are struggling for form, while bottom sides Landskrona BoIS and Trelleborgs FF also lost again.
Thun take over
FC Thun moved a point ahead of FC Basel 1893 in the Swiss Football League thanks to a 1-0 win at FC Schaffhausen. The champions, meanwhile, were held 1-1 at BSC Young Boys, who took the lead through veteran striker Stéphane Chapuisat before Cesar Carignano earned Basel a point.
Coaching changes
Servette FC coach Marco Schällibaum was dimissed after the 3-0 reverse against Neuchâtel Xamax, while new FC Aarau coach Andy Egli made a winning start thanks to a 3-1 success against FC Zürich. FC St. Gallen and Grasshopper-Club played out a scoreless draw.
