False start for Dinamo

Romanian champions FC Dinamo Bucuresti began the season with a defeat while FC Midtjylland lead in Denmark.

Dinamo pay penalty
Dinamo midfield player Leonard Naidin was sent off for a second yellow card on 36 minutes and the home side made the man advantage count when Mihai Pascovici headed in on 66 minutes.

Zenga triumph
Meanwhile, Walter Zenga's reign as FC Steaua Bucuresti coach started in style with a 2-0 home success against FC Gloria 1922 Bistrita. AFC Rapid Bucuresti also began with a victory thanks to goalkeeper Emilian Dolha's 85th-minute penalty save which ensured a 2-1 win at CS Politehnica Iasi.

Danish high-fliers
FC Midtjylland went top of the Danish Superliga for the first time in four years on Saturday after beating Odense BK 2-1. Having opened the season with a 2-1 victory at Aalborg BK, the Central Jutland side stretched their unbeaten run at their new Messecenter Herning stadium to ten matches and are now the only unbeaten team after two rounds.

Bouncing back
Midtjylland responded to the setback of an early OB goal to win courtesy of Mohamed Zidan's penalty ten minutes from time and Frank Kristensen's 88th-minute decider.

Favourites toil
Double winners FC København drew 2-2 for the second week running. Trailing at home to Esbjerg fB, FCK drew level with goals from Hjalte Nørregaard and Ole Tobiasen. Meanwhile, Brøndby IF picked up their first points with a 2-0 home victory against Viborg FF.

Donetsk derby
FC Shakhtar Donetsk's perfect start to the Ukrainian Premier League campaign continued with a 3-0 triumph at home to FC Metalurh Donetsk. Ciprian Marica, Francelino Matuzalém and Julius Aghahowa got the goals as Mircea Lucescu's side won the Donetsk derby for the 15th time in succession.

Dnipro stumble
Title hopefuls FC Dnipro Dnipropetrovsk fell further off the pace after drawing 0-0 at FC Zakarpattya Uzhgorod, while FC Dynamo Kyiv will look to close the gap on the leaders with three points against FC Illychivets Mariupil on Monday.

Hajduk trouble
In Croatia, HNK Hajduk Split's problems worsened after losing 4-2 at home to NK Zagreb. The champions came from two goals behind, only to allow Sergej Jakirovic and Rajko Vidovic to score in the closing stages and clinch Zagreb's first win of the season.

Dinamo recovery
NK Dinamo Zagreb also had a torrid weekend, but at least emerged with a point after recovering a two-goal deficit to draw 3-3 at NK Pula 1856. HNK Rijeka, NK Osijek and NK Inter Zaprešic all won to preserve 100 per cent records, while NK Varteks thrashed NK Slaven Koprivnica 6-0 on Sunday.

Cup upsets
After FC Terek Grozny's surprise triumph last season, it was another weekend of upsets in the Russian Cup as PFC CSKA Moskva, FC Lokomotiv Moskva and FC Spartak Moskva all lost to first division clubs with a place in the quarter-finals at stake.

Spartak fall
Spartak fell 2-0 at home to FC Metallurh Lipetsk, CSKA lost by the same scoreline at FC Sokol Saratov, while Lokomotiv went down at FC Chernomorets Krasnodarskiy Kray. FC Rubin Kazan, FC Shinnik Yaroslavl and SC Rotor Volgograd were the top flight's other first-leg losers.
