Article body
Belgian champions RSC Anderlecht began the new season in disappointing fashion with a 2-0 defeat at R. Excelsior Mouscron on Friday night.
Dimbala delight
Mouscron striker Patrick Dimbala was the architect of Anderlecht's downfall with a goal in each half, breaking the deadlock four minutes before half-time and adding a second goal a minutes past the hour.
Early goals
Last season's runners-up Club Brugge KV also started the new campaign slowly as they were held to a 1-1 draw at KSK Beveren on Saturday. The visitors fell behind after only two minutes as Moussa Sanogo put Beveren in front, but Bosko Balaban equalised four minutes later to give Brugge a point.
Standard subdued
There was an identical scoreline as R. Standard de Liège – third in 2003/04 – were held at K. Lierse SK. Congolese striker Mohammed Tchite gave Standard the lead after 23 minutes, but Björn De Wilde resotred parity midway through the second period.
Away victories
Mirsad Beslija's goal proved enough to give KRC Genk all three points at FC Brussels, while KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen won at KAA Gent by the same score thanks to Marcelo De Souza's strike early in the second half.
Contrasting draws
Saturday's two other league games ended level, with K. Sint-Truidense VV playing out a goalless draw with RAEC Mons and Cercle Brugge KSV shared four goals with KSC Lokeren OV.
Sunday action
On Sunday, Tosin Dosunmu's hat-trick was not enough for KVC Westerlo at KV Oostende as the home side battled back to earn a 3-3 draw. There was away success for RAA Louviéroise, however, who ran out 5-2 winners at R. Charleroi SC.
