Play-off triumph
Dowie joined Palace in December from Oldham Athletic AFC and oversaw a remarkable rise up the table that culminated in victory against West Ham United FC at Cardiff's Millennium Stadium in the promotion play-off final. The London club therefore reached the English top flight for the first time since 1998.
Chairman's support
"We have in my opinion one of the best, if not the best, managers in the country, a man with huge ambition and drive," Palace chairman Simon Jordan said on the club's website. "Obviously Iain will need the right players and facilities to work with, and I will ensure he is given them."
