Long absence
The 31-year-old former Belgian international collapsed 20 minutes into Sunday's 5-0 league defeat at Club Brugge KV and left the pitch in agony. Tests confirmed the severity of the injury, and the forward is expected to be out for four to six months.
Five-year spell
Martens returned to Gent in January after nearly five years with Club Brugge. Following defeats in their opening two matches this season, Gent are bottom of the Belgian First Division.
