Bayern cruise through in style

Roque Santa Cruz scored four as FC Bayern München won 6-0 at TSV Völpke in the German Cup first round.

FC Bayern München reached the second round of the German Cup in emphatic style with a 6-0 win at TSV Völpke on Saturday, Paraguayan striker Roque Santa Cruz scoring four times.

Scholl breakthrough
Bayern's amateur opponents produced a spirited display and kept the scoresheet blank for the first 26 minutes. However, German international midfield player Mehmet Scholl then broke the deadlock, and Cruz and a Zahn own goal made the half-time score 3-0.

Cruz takes over
Cruz scored three more in the second 45 minutes, completing his hat-trick with 19 minutes left and adding his fourth and Bayern's sixth in the final minute.

Six for Jancker
1. FC Kaiserslautern were even more resounding winners, Carsten Jancker scoring six times in a stunning 15-0 win away to FC Schönberg 95, with Selim Teber and Ferydoon Zandi also getting hat-tricks.

Big names through
VfB Stuttgart also won 6-0, Kevin Kuranyi finding the net twice in a comfortable win at TuS 1886/1914 Mayen. The other three Bundesliga sides in action on Saturday night all progressed safely, FC Schalke 04 winning 2-0 at Hertha BSC Berlin's amateur side while Bayer 04 Leverkusen wrapped up a 3-1 success at 1. FSV Mainz 05's amateur team and FC Hansa Rostock were 2-0 winners away to TSG Hoffenheim.

Narrow victories
Two other Bundesliga sides were made to work hard for their wins, Sunday Oliseh's early strike the only goal of BV Borussia Dortmund's visit to VfB Lübeck 1919 while Johan Micoud and Ivan Klasnic were on target as holders SV Werder Bremen won 2-0 at Jahn Regensburg.

Hamburg humbled
VfL Bochum 1848 were 3-1 winners at TSV Fortuna Düsseldorf while 1. FC Nürnberg ran out 2-1 winners at FC Teiningen on Friday night. SC Freiburg wrapped up a 4-0 success at 1. FC Union Berlin, although the top flight's bottom side Hamburger SV suffered another blow, bowing out of the competition following a 4-2 loss at amateur side SC Paderborn 07. The outstanding ten first-round ties are played on Sunday.
