Three-year deal
The 27-year-old right-back has penned a three-year deal with Atlético, just two days before the Primera División kicks off. Velasco made 25 appearances for Celta last season but could not save the Galicians from relegation. He had spent five years at the Balaídos after joining from Sevilla FC in 1999.
'Great club'
Velasco, capped five times by Spain, was delighted to finalise the move to this summer's UEFA Intertoto Cup finalists. He told Atlético's website: "I've waited a long time for this moment. I'm thrilled to have signed for a great club and am eager to get started." He could make his debut against Málaga CF on Saturday.
