Betis splash out on Edu

Real Betis Balompié have signed Brazilian forward Edu from RC Celta de Vigo in a deal worth some €5.5m.

Long-term deal
Edu, who has a single international cap, has agreed a deal that could keep him in Seville until June 2009. The move ends a four-year spell with Celta, who were relegated from the Spanish top flight last season. The 25-year-old played well over 100 games for the club after joining from Brazilian outfit São Paulo FC in 2000.

Third recruit
Edu becomes Betis's third new recruit this summer following the captures of fellow Brazilian striker Ricardo Oliveira from Valencia CF for €4m and 25-year-old Italian left-back Paolo Castellini from Torino Calcio. The Andalusian team drew their opening match against newly promoted CD Numancia yesterday.
