Another Swede for Southampton

Members

Southampton FC have completed the signing of Swedish defender Andreas Jakobsson from Brøndby IF.

EURO star
The centre-back impressed during Sweden's UEFA EURO 2004™ campaign, bringing him to the attention of British clubs including Nottingham Forest FC. But the 31-year-old, who recently retired from international football, was encouraged to join Southampton by the Premiership side's Swedish contingent.

'Dream come true'
"I am delighted that the deal has gone through," he said. "I've spoken to Michael Svensson, Anders Svensson and Mikael Nilsson, who tell me it is a good club with great facilities. It's a dream come true playing in the Premier League and it was a chance I didn't want to miss."

Cover and experience
Jakobsson has agreed a two-year contract with the option of a third and becomes head coach Steve Wigley's second signing after Tunisian Alleddine Yahia. Wigley hopes the player will provide the necessary cover and experience to bolster his defence following an injury to Michael Svensson.

Impressive CV
Jakobsson previously played for Landskrona BoIS, Helsingborgs IF and FC Hansa Rostock before joining Bröndby last year. He was capped by his country 36 times and scored two goals.
