Naybet earns his Spurs

Members

Tottenham Hotspur FC have signed the RC Deportivo La Coruña and Morocco defender Nourredine Naybet.

One year to run
Naybet did not play as Deportivo drew the first leg of their UEFA Champions League third qualifying round tie against Shelbourne FC 0-0 in Dublin last night, instead putting the finishing touches to a deal to take him from the Primera División to the Premiership. Spurs will reportedly pay €1m for the 34-year-old, who had a season left on his contract at the Riazor.

Champions League
The Moroccan international started out with WAC Casablanca, where he won three domestic championships and the African Champions League in 1992. He subsequently spent a year in France with FC Nantes Atlantique, then two with Sporting Clube de Portugal - lifting the Portuguese Cup in 1994/95.

Saturday debut?
He moved to La Coruña and helped the Galician club secure a first Spanish title in 1999/00, before being part of the team that beat Real Madrid CF to claim the Spanish Cup two seasons later. Naybet, who was sent off as Depor lost to FC Porto in last season's Champions League semi-final, could make his debut against Liverpool FC on Saturday.
