Article body
Trabzonspor continued their superb domestic form with a 3-1 win against local rivals Akçaabat Sebatspor to move top of the early Turkish Superleague table.
Great form
Five days after their UEFA Champions League qualification triumph against FC Dynamo Kyiv in Ukraine, Trabzonspor showed no signs of early season sluggishness as they secured their second win of the season. Having beaten Kayserispor 3-0 in the opening round of matches, the Trabzon outfit produced another impressive performance on Sunday.
Late consolation
Fatih Tekke had opened the scoring on 19 minutes before Gökdeniz Karadeniz - who got the vital equaliser against Dynamo on Wednesday - doubled the score four minutes into the second half. Mehmet Yilmaz's 63th-minute strike made it 3-0 before former Trazonspor player Orhan Kaynak pulled a goal back in added time.
Fábio goal
Reigning champions Fenerbahçe SK eased to a 2-1 win against Samsunspor at the Sükrü Saraçoglu stadium. After a goalless first half, Brazilian Fábio Luciano opened the scoring with his sixth goal in Fenerbahçe's colours before Tuncay Sanli gave the Istanbul side a 2-0 lead. The visitors reduced the defecit through Tunisian Kaies Ghodhbane in stoppage time, but it was too late to make a difference.
Surprise defeat
In Friday's match, Galatasaray SK went down to a surprise 1-0 defeat against Gaziantepspor. Erdal Günes scored the game's only goal from a counterattack with just two minutes remaining to put an early dent in the Istanbul side's title ambitions. Meanwhile, city rivals Istanbulspor AS held MKE Ankaragücü to a goalless draw in Ankara.
Besiktas falter
Besiktas JK again faltered as they were held 1-1 by Gençlerbirligi SK. Besiktas, who finished third last season, had salvaged a late point against Malatyaspor last week but the tables were turned this week thanks to Souleymane Youla's goal on 73 minutes that cancelled out Ugur Boral's earlier own goal. Besiktas' Ahmet Yildirim and Mustafa Gürsel of Gençlerbirligi were both dismissed.
Kratochvil penalty
Denizlispor maintained their perfect record with a 2-1 win against Sakaryaspor AS in Samsun. Ömer Riza opened the scoring for Denizlispor with a powerful header before Ragip Basdag's long-range effort just before half-time levelled the scores. Three minutes into the second half, Roman Kratochvil scored from the penalty spot to seal the win for the away side.
Difficult step up
League newcomers BB Ankaraspor were unable to repeat last week's victory as they lost 3-1 to Malatyaspor. Serkan Bensol scored twice for the visitors and Ömer Erdogan added a third before Brazilian Luiz Wéderson's consolation. Fellow newcomers Kayserispor are still without a point after losing 2-1 against Diyarbakirspor.
