Article body
This season's surprise package Denizlispor continued their winning start to the Turkish top-flight campaign, as they and Trabzonspor remain the only teams with 100 per cent records.
Tümer penalty
Despite winning their opening two games this term, Denizispor were expected to be given a real test by last year's third-place finishers Besiktas JK and after Tümer Metin had levelled the scores from the penalty spot, many of the vociferous away fans expected the Istanbul giants to go on to win.
Fatih hat-trick
However, that was not to be as Timuçin Bayazit and Alp Küçükvardar added to Ömer Riza's opener to seal a 3-1 win that leaves Besiktas still seeking their first win of the season. The win took Denizispor to nine points, alongside last season's runners-up Trabzonspor, who beat Malatyaspor 4-3 in an absorbing match. Fatih Tekke scored a hat-trick for Ziya Dogan's men as they fought back after conceding an early goal to Mert Korkmaz.
Close encounter
Gökdeniz Karadeniz was also on target for Trabzonspor, but their fans' nerves were frayed when Malatyaspor pulled goals back first courtesy of a Celaleddin Koçak own goal and then later - after Fatih had restored their two-goal cushion - when Bilal Kisa scored from long range. Malatyaspor were left to rue Yunus Altun's costly penalty miss.
Alex opens account
Reigning champions Fenerbahçe SK moved to third after a comfortable derby win against Istanbulspor at the Mimar Yahya Bas stadium on Saturday. Brazilian midfield player Alex scored his first goal for the club since arriving from Cruizero ES during the summer, while Tuncay Sanli and Pierre van Hooijdonk completed the scoring as Fenerbahçe won 3-0.
Necati double
Galatasaray SK returned to winning ways with a 2-1 triumph against Çaykur Rizespor at the Ali Sami Yen stadium. Necati Ates struck twice, including a spectacular 25-metre effort, to inflict a first defeat of the season on Rizespor and help Galatasaray climb to third.
Çatkiç fumble
In Ankara, the city's derby match between Gençlerbirligi SK and BB Ankaraspor finished 1-1. Ankaraspor took the lead after Turkish international goalkeeper Ömer Çatkiç fumbled the ball into his own net following Wéderson's corner. Mustafa Özkan levelled the scores in the second half.
Biryol on target
The game between Samsunspor and Konyaspor also ended 1-1. Samsunspor took the lead through Kaies Ghodhbane after 32 minutes but last season's top goalscorer Zafer Biryol equalised three minutes into the second half to leave both sides still seeking their maiden victory of the season. The same is true of Kayserispor and Ankaragücü after their game finished with the same scoreline. It was Ankaragücü's third draw in as many games.
Off the mark
Sakaryaspor AS are now the only side in the league who have yet to pick up a point after suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat at Gaziantepspor on Sunday. The same threat had been weighing heavy on the Sebatspor players but two goals from Oktay Derelioglu earned the Black Sea outfit a 2-2 draw against Diyarbakirspor to get them up and running.
