Club Brugge savour derby delight

Club Brugge KV and RSC Anderlecht both had emphatic wins and continue to set the pace in Belgium.

Club Brugge KV maintained their unbeaten start to the season with an emphatic 5-0 win in the derby match against KSV Cercle Brugge.

Sluggish start
The league leaders began the game sluggishly and looked to be paying for their exertions in Thursday's 4-0 win against LB Châteauroux in the UEFA Cup, when striker Rune Lange broke the deadlock just before half-time. The goal invigorated Brugge and Nastja Ceh put the match beyond the visitors with two goals in the second half, the second a penalty. Hans Cornelis and Dieter Van Torhoudt completed the scoring in the final ten minutes.

Winning run
Champions RSC Anderlecht remain second after they recorded their fifth successive victory with an emphatic 5-1 win against K. Lierse SK at the Constant Vanden Stock. Captain Pär Zetterberg, Mbo Mpenza and Aruna Dindane were all on target, while Serbia and Montenegro striker Nenad Jestrovic netted twice, his second a penalty after Jonas De Roeck had handled.

Inconsistent Mouscron
The side that inflicted Anderlecht's only defeat of the season on the opening day, R. Excelsior Mouscron, continued their inconsistent form, losing 3-1 at RAA Louvièroise. The visitors had started brightly with Marc Schaessens scoring on 17 minutes but Mario Espartero equalised from a free-kick four minutes later and late goals from Matthieu Maton and Mannaseh Ishiaku meant La Louvière leapfrogged Mouscron into third place.

Stalemate
The matches between KVC Westerlo and KRC Genk, and K. Sint Truidense VV and KV Oostende both finished goalless. Sint-Truiden will have been the happier as they played the last 35 minutes with ten men after Lassina Diabete was sent off.

Cadu double
FC Brussels also finished their game against KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerpen a man short, following goalkeeper Patrick Nys' first-half dismissal. The league's top scorer, Cadu, scored his fifth and sixth of the season after half-time as Germinal Beerschot won 2-0 to move up to sixth. R. Charleroi, meanwhile, are seventh after Abdelmajid Oulmers' goal secured their third successive away win at RAEC Mons.

First home win
In the weekend's other games, Sambegou Bangoura's goal gave Standard de Liège their first home win of the season against KSV Lokeren OV, while KAA Gent won 2-1 at KSK Beveren.
