Bremen 'back in business'

Thomas Schaaf said Werder Bremen's courage was rewarded after they fought back to defeat Valencia CF.

Thomas Schaaf, Bremen coach
We were behind after only three minutes but we managed to come back into the game and were rewarded for our courage. We wanted a victory tonight and got one. Valencia played well after their early lead and we had to mark them closely to avoid them forcing their game upon us. Charisteas took his chance to shine well - he scored one and might have headed a second.

Claudio Ranieri, Valencia coach
After taking an early lead, we played well for 20 minutes, during which we had two good chances to sew the game up. After that Bremen battled back well. We had to adjust after the sending off because [Fabian] Ernst and [Johan] Micoud upped the pressure in midfield. Bremen showed that they are a very good side tonight - people in Spain did not want to believe me. Vicente has an ankle injury but we don't know yet how serious it is.

Miroslav Klose, Bremen
I thank our coach for the trust he put in me. The victory over Valencia was a battle of wills. We deserved to win, but we must not get complacent because we are in a very strong group.

Fabian Ernst, Bremen
We deserved the win because we showed more passion, the crowd got right behind us and we are back in business in our group in a big way.
