Cup exit for Chievo

Torino Calcio knocked AC Chievo Verona out of the Coppa Italia, as three other Serie A sides fell.

AC Chievo Verona saw their Coppa Italia dreams ended by Serie B Torino Calcio this evening, while AS Livorno Calcio, Reggina Calcio and Brescia Calcio were all eliminated against fellow top-flight teams as six second round ties were completed tonight.

Torino joy
Chievo trailed Torino 1-0 going into their home leg, and within four minutes the visitors were further ahead when José María Franco converted a penalty. Simone Tiribocchi scored for Chievo 21 minutes later, but his side could not level the tie, leaving Torino to progress to face UC Sampdoria over two legs either side of New Year.

Fiorentina through
Brescia were involved in the closest fixture of the night, having drawn 1-1 at ACF Fiorentina a fortnight ago. Gianni Guigou's goal early in the second half for Fiorentina was quickly cancelled out by Simone Del Nero, forcing extra time. Luigi Di Biagio gave Brescia a 97th-minute lead, but Gaetano Fontana converted a penalty nine minutes from the end for Fiorentina to advance on away goals to a meeting with Parma FC.

Atalanta advance
Atalanta BC found life more comfortable at Reggina as they won 3-2 to complete a 7-3 overall triumph and now take on Juventus FC. US Lecce trailed 2-1 as they welcomed Livorno for the return - but three goals in the opening 49 minutes set up a 3-1 victory for the hosts, who now are paired with Udinese Calcio.

Bologna survive
Elswehere, Bologna FC conceded four late goals to lose 4-3 at home against Serie B's Ternana Calcio, but the top-flight side won 6-5 overall and earned a tie with FC Internazionale Milano. Cagliari Calcio matched their 3-1 first-leg win against USC Triestina and now play holders S.S. Lazio. US Città di Palermo advanced to meet AC Milan last night, and tomorrow the second round is completed when AC Siena defend a 1-0 lead at home against FC Messina Peloro with AS Roma awaiting the winners.
