Besiktas boosted by Carew

John Carew scored twice as Besiktas JK finally recorded their first win of the season.

Last season's third-place finishers Besiktas JK finally recorded their first win of the season on Sunday as they beat bottom side Sakaryaspor 4-1.

Carew penalties
Norwegian striker John Carew struck two penalties before Serdal Kurt hit back with less than 15 minutes remaining. Sergen Yalçin restored the two-goal cushion and calmed the visitors' nerves a minute later and Ibrahim Akin sealed the win with three minutes remaining to give the side a lift before they travel to Norway to face FK Bodø/Glimt in the UEFA Cup on Thursday.

Flattering scoreline
Fenerbahçe SK are also in European action this week - against AC Sparta Praha in the UEFA Champions League - and they too go into the tie on the back of a 4-1 domestic victory. But it was an unconvincing performance by the current champions, who were drawing 1-1 and struggling to break a stubborn Akçaabat Sebatspor defence when Alex finally added a second goal on 84 minutes. Marcio Nobre then scored twice in two minutes to give Fenerbahçe a flattering scoreline.

On-form duo
Christoph Daum's side remain second, two points behind Trabzonspor who consigned Denizlispor to their second defeat in as many games with a 2-0 win. On-form striking duo Gökdeniz Karadeniz and Fatih Tekke scored their fifth and sixth goals of the season respectively.

Dramatic comeback
Two goals in the last three minutes elicited a remarkable turnaround for Gaziantepspor against Ankaraspor at the Kamil Ocak stadium. Gökhan Zan levelled the scores on 87 minutes before defender Mehmet Polat scored the winner in added time. Galatasaray SK also came from a goal down as they beat Samsunspor 3-1 at the Ali Sami Yen stadium. Necati Ates scored two second-half goals before veteran striker Hakan Sükür capped off the win with a magnificent long-range strike in the final minute.

Youla double
Two goals from Guinean striker Souleymane Youla helped Gençlerbirligi SK to a 2-0 victory against Diyarbakirspor, while Slovenian Milan Osterc's goal earned his side a narrow 1-0 win against MKE Ankaragücü - the first defeat of the season for the Ankara outfit. Çaykur Rizespor also kept a clean sheet as Okan Öztürk's two penalties helped his side to a 3-0 win away against Istanbulspor. The game between Kayserispor and Konyaspor finished 2-2.
