Toulouse FC became the surprise Ligue 1 leaders after they defeated AC Ajaccio 3-1 at home on Saturday, while FC Metz could only draw 0-0 with ten-man FC Girondins de Bordeaux.

Impressive win
Nabil Taider, Adelino Eduardo and Dominique Arribagé were all on target for Toulouse, who now have eleven points from five matches. Carioca Marcelinho found a consolation for the Corsican club who prop up the table with a solitary point.

Bordeaux spirit
Metz were looking for their fourth consecutive victory, and when Bordeaux captain Lilian Laslandes was sent off after just 20 minutes, it looked as though another win was on the cards. But a determined rearguard action from the visitors ensured the game ended goalless.

Narrow victories
SC Bastia moved level with Toulouse and Metz on eleven points after their 1-0 victory against AJ Auxerre, Algerian Anthar Yahia scoring the all-important goal in the 30th minute. Meanwhile, champions Olympique Lyonnais moved up to fourth place after winning 2-1 at Stade Rennais FC. All three goals came in the last ten minutes, with Brazilian new boy Nilmar scoring twice for Lyon before Dudu Cearense pulled one back.

Monaco momentum
AS Monaco FC also secured an impressive victory, beating RC Strasbourg 3-1 at the Stade Louis II. Emmanuel Adebayor headed the home team into the lead after four minutes, only for Mickael Pagis to level matters before the break. Mohamed Kallon scored a retaken penalty to restore Monaco's lead on 58 minutes before Javier Saviola, making his first appearance after signing on loan from FC Barcelona, sealed victory four minutes from time.

Winless PSG
Paris Saint-Germain FC and FC Istres are still chasing their first wins of the season after sharing a 1-1 draw on Saturday. Rafik Saifi scored just two minutes into his Istres debut before Pauleta levelled the match from the penalty spot in the 59th minute. Philippe Brunel's goal was enough to give Lille OSC all three points at home to OGC Nice, while FC Nantes Atlantique drew 0-0 with AS Saint-Etienne and SC Caen beat RC Lens 1-0 with a goal from Sebastien Mazure.
