French champions Olympique Lyonnais moved to the top of Ligue 1 with a 2-0 victory at Toulouse FC.
Second-half goals
Playing 24 hours before the rest of the midweek fixtures, Lyon took the lead on 52 minutes when Michael Essien drove in the ball from a close-range free-kick. Although the home side pushed for an equaliser, Florent Malouda scored the clinching goal on the counterattack in added time.
Monaco chance
Unbeaten Lyon now lead AS Monaco FC by two points, but the second-placed side can overhaul the title-holders by winning their game in hand tomorrow against FC Nantes Atlantique. Toulouse, who have now lost two straight matches since briefly topping the table, are fifth.
