Charlton Athletic FC are up to seventh in the English Premiership but were made to work hard for a 1-0 home win tonight by Blackburn Rovers FC.
Mixed form
Blackburn, who since appointing Mark Hughes as manager eleven days ago have picked up their first Premiership win of the season against Portsmouth FC but were eliminated from the League Cup by lowly AFC Bournemouth, had their fair share of possession and chances at The Valley but were unable to find the target.
El Karkouri winner
On 49 minutes the deadlock was broken when Talal El Karkouri headed in Danny Murphy's corner moments after the Moroccan international had almost set up Kevin Lisbie to score. Blackburn pushed for an equaliser, but the nearest they came was a Jon Stead shot narrowly wide, and they remain in 16th place, only one point above the bottom three. Charlton's home unbeaten run now stands at eight games.
