Lakis completes Palace switch

Greek international Vassilios Lakis has joined English Premiership newcomers Crystal Palace FC.

Greek international Vassilios Lakis has signed a one-year contract with English Premiership newcomers Crystal Palace FC.

Free agent
The 28-year-old had been without a club since the summer, when he was released from his contract with AEK Athens FC after filing a petition to the Greek football authorities on the grounds of unpaid wages. He had spent six years there after signing from Paniliakos FC.

Struggling
"We are delighted to have signed a player of this quality," said Palace manager Iain Dowie. Palace have struggled on their return to the English top flight and presently sit bottom of the table with just two points from a possible 21.

Moving abroad
Lakis, a right-sided midfield player, has scored three goals in his 32 Greece appearances, two of which came as a substitute during his country's successful UEFA EURO 2004™ campaign. He becomes the fifth player from the squad to move abroad since Greece's victory, following Giourkas Seitaridis, Theodoros Zagorakis, Mihalis Kapsis and Theofanis Katergiannakis.
