Club Brugge KV and RSC Anderlecht continue to dominate the Eerste Klasse after overcoming tough opponents.

By Berend Scholten

Club Brugge KV and RSC Anderlecht continued to dominate the Belgian First Division with Trond Sollied’s side defeating RAA Louviéroise to extend the gap between second and third to six points.

Ceh goal
La Louvière began the weekend in third, but lost ground on the leading sides with a 2-0 defeat by Brugge at Tivoli stadium.  Nastja Ceh opened the scoring a minute before half-time, and although the visitors pressed for the equaliser, the league leaders sealed victory nine minutes from time when Ceh teed up Gaëtan Englebert.

Dramatic comeback
Anderlecht were pushed all the way at home against KRC Genk. The visitors, who were down to ten men following Eric Matoukou’s 24th-minute sending off, led 2-1 until eight minutes from time. But Aaron Mokoena scored an unfortunate own goal to level the scores before Aruna Dindane added two goals in the last two minutes to seal a remarkable comeback.

Standard shock
KAA Gent moved third with a 3-1 victory against R. Charleroi SC after the side that started the day alongside La Louvière, R. Standard de Liège, were shocked 1-0 away against KFC Germinal Beerschot Antwerp. The home side had only taken a single point from their previous three games, but Mohamed Messoudi's exquisite lob on 50 minutes earned the Antwerp outfit a welcome win.

Brilliant Beveren
It was Standard’s second defeat in a week following their 2-0 reverse by FC Steaua Bucuresti on Thursday, but another club in UEFA Cup action, KSK Beveren, recovered from their own 5-1 loss against VfL Stuttgart by defeating KSV Cercle Brugge by the same scoreline. Moussa Sanogo, Alain Koudou Arunina and Marco Né all found the net, while Ndri Romaric scored two as Beveren moved up to 13th.

Decisive Delorge
K. Sint Truidense VV earned their first home win of the season with a 2-0 victory against FC Brussels, while another struggling side, RAEC Mons, lost by a solitary goal against KSC Lokeren OV. Mons remain two points off the foot of the table as bottom side KV Oostende were defeated 3-2 in an exciting game against K. Lierse SK, with Laurent Delorge scoring the decisive goal from a free-kick. Finally, KVC Westerlo also lost at home, with Marcin Zewlakow giving R. Excelsior Mouscron a narrow 1-0 victory.
