In Belgium, K. Sint-Truidense VV defender Thomas Caers has announced he is retiring from football at 31. Caers has been struggling with a serious hip injury for a while and the problem worsened during a recent match against R. Charleroi SC. "It felt like I'd been shot or stabbed," he said. " I really feel relieved now the word has come out that I've quit."
Dutch club NEC Nijmegen will be without Polish international striker Andrzej Niedzielan for four to six weeks. The 25-year-old missed the league games against FC Groningen and RBC Roosendaal because he was complaining of a sore groin, and following a scan, he has been ordered to follow a rehabilitation programme.
