AC Milan were held to a 0-0 draw by undefeated FC Internazionale Milano to leave Juventus FC the big winners after an enthralling weekend of Serie A action.
Missed chances
Juve now have a five-point lead after an absorbing but goalless Milan derby, Paolo Maldini's 48th, in which Inter's Christian Vieri and Milan pair Andriy Shevchenko and Massimo Ambrosini all missed chances to snatch victory.
Bjelanovic strikes
Earlier in the day, two goals from Sasa Bjelanovic helped high-flying US Lecce to an impressive 4-1 away win against FC Messina Peloro. Lecce's record Serie A finish came in 1988/89 when they ended up ninth, but this victory, sealed by Samuele Dalla Bona's late strike, carried them to second spot.
Sequence broken
Mirko Vucinic broke the deadlock for Zdenek Zeman's side and Bjelanovic's double came either side of Arturo Di Napoli's consolation goal for Messina, who had not lost at home since the 2002/03 season.
Totti penalty
Struggling AS Roma came from behind to earn a point against US Città di Palermo at the Olimpico stadium. A free-kick by Fabio Grosso gave the visitors a deserved lead after 32 minutes but Roma hit back and Francesco Totti scored from the penaly spot 12 minutes into the second half.
Red cards
Luigi Di Biagio's 56th-minute spot-kick gave Brescia Calcio their second away win of the season against UC Sampdoria. Both mid-table teams finished with ten men following the dismissals of Sampdoria striker Fabio Bazzani and Brescia's 23-year-old defender Davide Zoboli.
First win
Early goals from Marco Marchionni and Mark Bresciano against S.S. Lazio sent Parma FC on the way to their first win of the season at the Ennio Tardini. Tommaso Rocchi halved the deficit before half-time but Alberto Gilardino's 64th-minute strike wrapped up a 3-1 win for Parma, who squandered a spot-kick when Domenico Morfeo was denied by Matteo Sereni.
Udinese denied
Two Fabrizio Miccoli goals prevented Udinese Calcio climbing out of the drop zone as ACF Fiorentina salvaged a point in Udine. Miccoli put the visitors ahead on 15 minutes but goals from Stefano Mauri and 38-year-old Nestor Sensini swung the game in Udinese's favour until Miccoli struck again with 25 minutes left.
Lucarelli heroics
Elsewhere, a solitary Cristiano Lucarelli goal gave AS Livorno Calcio their first victory of the season against Bologna FC while AC Chievo Verona were held to goalless draw by visitors Reggina Calcio.
