FC Bayern München moved within a point of the top of the Bundesliga tonight as two Claudio Pizarro goals gave Felix Magath's side a 2-0 win at home to leaders VfL Wolfsburg.
First-half goals
The Peruvian striker has made an impressive return from a recent injury and scored his first when Bastian Schweinsteiger picked him out with a beautiful pass on 24 minutes. Seconds before half-time, the 26-year-old tapped an Owen Hargreaves free-kick past Wolfsburg goalkeeper Simon Jentzsch to seal victory.
Bayern third
Despite winning, Bayern remain third in the Bundesliga, level on points with VfB Stuttgart who can overtake Wolfsburg if they defeat champions Werder Bremen on Wednesday.
Hannover comeback
Elsewhere, Hannover 96 moved up to fourth place after coming from behind to beat bottom side 1. FC Kaiserslautern. Ioannis Amanatidis gave the visitors the lead on 26 minutes, but Michael Tarnat levelled eight minutes later and Jirí Štajner secured maximum points with two second-half goals.
Duo victorious
Meanwhile, VfL Bochum 1848 and BV Borussia Dortmund recorded much-needed victories. Bochum won 3-0 at home to VfL Borussia Mönchengladbach, thanks to second-half goals from Christoph Preuss, Dariusz Wosz and Peter Madsen. Mönchengladbach had Jeff Strasser dismissed for a second yellow card. Dortmund prevailed 1-0 at Hertha BSC Berlin, with Jan Koller scoring the only goal late in the first half.
