VfB Stuttgart moved back to within one point of Bundesliga leaders VfL Wolfsburg with a 2-0 away win against DSC Arminia Bielefeld on Sunday.

Fortunate bounce
The German top-flight's only undefeated side were set on their way by a 43rd-minute goal from Markus Babbel, who joined Stuttgart on a free transfer from Liverpool FC in the summer. Martin Stranzl flicked a corner on to Petr Gabriel's knee and the ball bounced kindly for Babbel, who was left with the easiest of headers. Cacau doubled the visitors' lead deep into added time to ensure Stuttgart once again moved three points clear of third-placed FC Bayern München.

Interval lead
The Ruhr derby was settled by the odd goal in five, with ten-man FC Schalke 04 hanging on to claim a 3-2 win against VfL Bochum 1848. Schalke and Bochum were both in UEFA Cup action in midweek, but had only three wins in 12 games between them before today's derby. Schalke were quikest out of the blocks, with first-half goals from Gerald Asamoah, Levan Kobiashvili and Lincoln giving them a comfortable interval lead.

Lincoln off
Zvjezdan Misimovic gave Bochum hope with a goal five minutes into the second half and Raymond Kalla put Peter Neururer's side back in contention 15 minutes later. Schalke looked in even more trouble when Lincoln picked up his second booking of the match ten minutes from the final whistle, but they held on to take all three points and move up to seventh.
