Poor form
Campos was in his second spell at the club, having previously coached Gil Vicente in 2000/01, and guided the team to a 12th-place finish in last season's SuperLiga. However, Gil Vicente are bottom of the table seven games into the current campaign and the cup exit was the final straw for the club's board. "We spoke with the coach and he understood our apprehension and offered his resignation," said vice-president António Fiuza. "He is a great coach but he had no luck this time."
Morais move
Morais, who led GD Estoril-Praia into the Portuguese top flight last May after two successive promotions, was appointed until the end of the season. The new man will join the squad in Melgaco, where they are preparing for Sunday's game against SL Benfica under the tutelage of assistant coaches Ruca and Manuel Ribeiro. "Morais was our first choice and we have agreed everything with him, so he can be our coach until the end of the season," club official Constantino Lopes explained.
