Juventus move further in front

Juventus FC extended their Serie A lead by defeating ACF Fiorentina while second-placed AC Milan drew.

By Paolo Corradini

Juventus FC recovered from Saturday's defeat by Reggina Calcio to extend their Serie A lead over AC Milan to six points after defeating ACF Fiorentina 1-0 on Wednesday night.

Olivera winner
Substitute Ruben Olivera scored Juve's winner 18 minutes from time, while second-placed Milan were held 0-0 at Brescia Calcio. Brescia had captain Luigi Di Biagio sent off for a second bookable offence late in the game but held on to stay two points clear of the relegation zone.

Udinese defeat Roma
Resurgent Udinese Calcio took outright control of third place as they overwhelmed AS Roma 3-0 for their fourth win in five games. Vincenzo Iaquinta put visitors Udinese ahead on the stroke of half-time and David Pizarro converted a 60th-minute penalty after Luigi Sartor was sent off for fouling David Di Michele. Iaquinta completed the victory late on to leave Roma back in the bottom half, level on points with S.S. Lazio who lost 1-0 to AS Livorno Calcio, Cristiano Lucarelli scoring.

Inter held again
FC Internazionale Milano are now 13 points behind their city rivals in sixth after being held 2-2 at home by Bologna FC. Sinisa Mihajlovic's first-half goal was cancelled out after the break by Fabio Petruzzi and although Adriano restored Inter's lead, they had to settle for their ninth draw this season when Claudio Bellucci equalised three minutes from time.

Chievo rise
AC Chievo Verona leapfrogged Inter as they beat bottom side Atalanta BC with a second-half Simone Tiribocchi effort. Domenico Morfeo's first goal of the season ensured Parma FC defeated fellow strugglers Reggina, and UC Sampdoria were held 0-0 by Cagliari Calcio. FC Messina Peloro will look to join Udinese on 18 points when they play US Città di Palermo in Thursday's Sicilian derby.
