Familiar feeling
It was Sæternes's second cup triumph in six months after he helped former club Club Brugge KV take the Belgian equivalent in May. Today, at a packed Ullevål stadium, Sæternes scored on four, 14 and 34 minutes to end Lyn's hopes.
High hopes
It was Brann's first trophy since 1982, but a delighted Sæternes was determined it would be the start of a bright future for the club. He said: "To score in a cup final is special, but to score three goals is really something else. Now I hope that Brann again can be a consistent side at the top of Norwegian football."
Markstedt equaliser
Sæternes's first came after he slid in from close range, before he turned provider for Scottish striker Robbie Winters who doubled the lead on eight minutes. Lyn pulled one back three minutes later with a Peter Markstedt goal but Sæternes was on hand to score again just two minutes later, heading in a Martin Knudsen cross.
'Deserved winners'
The 29-year-old Sæternes finished off Lyn on 34 minutes, when he collected a pass and blasted the ball into the bottom corner. Lyn had no answer and Brann were content to play out the remainder of the match in control. Lyn coach Hans Knutsen said: "Brann were deserved winners. Our young lads seemed to freeze on the day, while the older players didn't manage to lift the side."
