AS Monaco FC recorded their first win against French opposition since 22 September yesterday, with victory against Ligue 2 side CS Sedan-Ardennes in the French League Cup. Ernesto Chevantón scored the only goal of the game six minutes after half-time. Holders FC Sochaux-Montbéliard took less time to break the deadlock against another second-tier outfit, Stade Brestois, going into a fourth-minute lead. But after Jérémy Mathieu's equaliser, it needed a Romain Pitau goal three minutes from time to secure victory and stretch Sochaux's unbeaten run to nine matches.
Hibernian FC striker Sam Morrow could be out for up to two months after suffering an ankle injury during last night's 2-1 Scottish League Cup quarter-final defeat at Dundee United FC. The Northern Irish Under-21 international had just returned from a knee problem when he limped off after 17 minutes. Manager Tony Mowbray said: "It's a massive blow for Sam. He's desperate to play and show the fans what he is capable of, but we'll have to wait until the swelling goes down to see just what has happened."
Celtic FC have released out-of-favour Dutch winger Bobby Petta after five seasons at Parkhead. The 30-year-old former Feyenoord and Ipswich Town FC player would have been out of contract in January and this allows him to make an early start in finding a new club. Manager Martin O'Neill said: "We have seen the emergence of young Ross Wallace, while Alan Thompson and Stephen Pearson are also with us, so Bobby understandably felt that he wanted a fresh start. We will be eternally grateful for the great effort he put into the season we won the treble."
Eredivisie side Roda JC were knocked out of the Dutch Cup with a third-round defeat at second-division strugglers Go Ahead Eagles. The home team eased to victory at De Adelaarshorst Stadium with goals from Niels Kokmeijer and former FC Groningen player Ignacio Tuhuteru.
