Aston Villa FC moved into the top five of the English Premiership after a stunning winner by Nolberto Solano sealed a 1-0 home victory against Tottenham Hotspur FC.
Volleyed goal
A quiet opening period saw few chances although Villa's Carlton Cole and Tottenham's Michael Brown both went close. But the home crowd were brought to their feet 12 minutes after the break when Solano controlled a corner with his back to goal, set himself up and swivelled to shoot past Paul Robinson in the visitors' goal.
Tottenham slump
The England goalkeeper did then save brilliantly to deny Solano again before Tottenham's Frédéric Kanouté missed the target later on as his side fell to a sixth straight league defeat - and second since Martin Jol took over as head coach. Tottenham now lie 15th, only two points above the relegation zone.
