Former Argentinian international midfield player Fernando Redondo has announced his retirement from football.

Major role
The 35-year-old was capped 29 times for his country and played a major role in Real Madrid CF's victories in the UEFA Champions League in 1998 and 2000. He was sold to AC Milan in July 2000 for €8.6m but suffered a serious knee injury and made only eight league appearances before leaving the club at the end of last season.

New life
"I've decided to spend a relaxed year in Madrid," Redondo said. "Next season I will go back to work in something related to football and start a new stage in my life."
