Integral figure
The 21-year-old has been an integral figure in top-flight newcomers Mainz's fine start to the season, but will not play again until well into the second half of the campaign after suffering the serious injury in Saturday's 4-3 defeat by VfL Wolfsburg. Having established himself in Germany's Under-21 set-up, Azaouagh was reportedly on the verge of a call-up to Jürgen Klinsmann's senior side.
Abel out
There was more bad news for seventh-placed Mainz today after the club learned that 23-year-old defender Mathias Abel will need to spend an unspecified period of time recovering from a collision which left him with concussion on Saturday.
