FC Schalke 04 climbed level on points with Bundesliga leaders FC Bayern München thanks to a 1-0 victory away against BV Borussia Dortmund in the Ruhr Valley derby.
Ailton decisive
Last season's top goalscorer Ailton did the damage, scoring the game's only goal on 17 minutes to silence most of the 83,000 spectators in the sold-out Westfalenstadion. It was the Brazilian striker's sixth goal in eight Bundesliga games and it left Dortmund 14th, just three points clear of the drop zone.
Kosowski scores
In Sunday's other derby, 1. FC Kaiserslautern defeated visitors 1. FSV Mainz 05 2-0. An own-goal from Mainz's former Kaiserslautern youth player Mathias Abel was followed by a second-half Kamil Kosowski strike to move Kurt Jara's side up to 12th spot, one place behind Mainz.
