Mandorlini makes way at Atalanta

Atalanta BC have parted company with coach Andrea Mandorlini after 14 Serie A matches without a win.

Four adrift
The 1-0 loss at US Città di Palermo means Atalanta have collected just seven points from twice as many league fixtures this season, leaving them four points adrift at the foot of Serie A. The 44-year-old Mandorlini arrived in Bergamo from Vicenza Calcio in 2003 and in September signed a contract extension until June 2006, a reward for leading Atalanta to promotion last season.

Third sacking
The former US Lecce coach Delio Rossi is favourite to succeed Mandorlini at the Stadio Comunale, although the club have not indicated who will be their new coach. Atalanta are the third top-flight club to sack their coach this season, following AS Roma and ACF Fiorentina.
