Beira-Mar hope for third time lucky

Members

SC Beira-Mar have appointed Luís Campos as coach after cancelling an agreement with Josef Chovanec.

Survival aim
The Czech coach had been announced as the new coach of the SuperLiga club last week but the deal has since been aborted. Instead, Campos, who had been coach of Gil Vicente FC earlier this season, will lead the team until the end of the campaign, with survival the main target. Beira-Mar are 16th with just 14 points from 15 matches.

Third coach
The 40-year-old Portuguese coach replaces Manuel Cajuda who left Beira-Mar on 15 December. He will be the club's third coach this season, with Beira-Mar having started 2004/05 with Mick Wadsworth in charge, only for him to leave in September for personal reasons.

First choice
Beira-Mar president Mano Nunes said Luís Campos was always the club's first choice. "We tried to contract Luís Campos when Manuel Cajuda left, but this wasn't possible," he said. "Now we have reached an agreement." he said. "Sometimes, bad things happen for a good reason," Nunes added, referring to the aborted deal with Chovanec.

Realistic ambition
Luís Campos said: "We have to be realistic and admit that Beira-Mar are going through a difficult period and, to overcome it, a tremendous amount of work will have to be done. We have to aim for a new start. The club have a great history and can do much better."
