Illés marks personal milestone

Members

Monthly review: Béla Illés has reached 500 appearances while Ferencvárosi TC are the winter leaders.

Prolific Kerekes
Ferencváros's last game before the winter break saw them 4-0 winners at home against Budapest Honvéd FC. The victory left them three points clear at the top of the table with nearest rivals Debreceni VSC keeping pace with a 2-0 home win against Zalaegerszegi TE. Among the scorers for Debrecen was newly capped Hungary striker Zsombor Kerekes, who leads the top scorers' list with nine goals.

Strugglers win
The picture at the other end is very tight. The bottom six clubs are separated by just four points with the team at the foot of the table, Nyíregyházi FC, heading into winter on a high after a 4-1 triumph at home against Kaposvári Rákóczi FC. It was only their second win of the season and will give them hope for 2005.

Still going strong
Also with reason to be cheerful on an individual level is MTK attacking midfielder Illés who has reached 500 top-flight appearances. The former Hungarian international made his debut in 1986 for Haladás VSC. He then moved to Honvéd for three seasons in the early 90s before turning up at MTK.

Dream approaching
Although his chances have been limited this season, with just four starts, he has still managed five goals. Illés's total stands at 206 in 500 NB I games and he said: "My dream is to be the Hungarian record-holder. For this I must play more than seven games in spring. Also I still want to be a useful option for my team, which has a lot of young talent."
