Tottenham Hotspur FC have agreed to sign Czech Under-21 international midfielder David Limberský on a six-month loan from FC Viktoria Plzen, with an option to make the deal permanent. The English club’s director of football Frank Arnesen said: "David is quick-footed, has good awareness, is an intelligent footballer and can play on either side of midfield."
DSC Arminia Bielefeld have agreed a new contract with coach Uwe Rapolder that will see him stay at the club until 2007. "I am very pleased that we managed to reach an agreement," said Rapolder. The 46-year-old masterminded Bielefeld's return to the Bundesliga after taking over in March 2004 and has led his team to tenth place after 17 games this season.
Bakhva Tedeev has become the new head coach of FC Alania Vladikavkaz, his third spell in charge of the Russian Premier League side. He is the 13th manager to take the helm there since January 2000 and replaces Yuri Sekinayev who, in turn, replaced Frenchman Roland Courbis earlier this year. In 2002 and 2003 Tedeev twice saved Alania from relegation only to be replaced the following season - first by Revaz Dzodzuashvili, then by Courbis. During his playing career Tedeev was one of the best footballers in Alania's history. He had three spells at the club and won the Russian championship with them in 1995.
Coach Valdas Ivanauskas has signed a new one-year contract with FBK Kaunas. After joining the club in September, Ivanauskas, 38, led them to the Lithuanian championship as well as to victory in the Lithuanian Cup final. Previously the ex-Hamburger SV striker was at the helm of FK Vetra and he has invited his former assistant there, Valdas Urbonas, to join him at Kaunas.
Norwich City FC striker Mathias Svensson will be out of action until January at the earliest after suffering a knee injury in Saturday's 4-0 defeat at Chelsea FC. The Swede, who has scored three goals for the promoted side in the Premiership, damaged his medial ligaments at Stamford Bridge.
Atay Aktug has been re-elected president of Turkish club Trabzonspor AS, winning 1,340 votes, more than twice as many as rival candidate Osman Abanoz. His first task will be to speak to former Trabzonspor and Turkey coach Senol Günes with a view to him taking over from current caretaker Ihsan Dererlioglu.
FC Porto will be decorated by the Portuguese government in recognition of their achievement in lifting the 2004 European/South American Cup following their penalty shoot-out victory over CD Once Caldas in Yokohama. Portugal's Prime Minister Pedro Santana Lopes will visit the Estádio do Dragão today along with other senior government figures.
Freddy David has left his role as coach of Israeli side Hapoel Petach-Tikva FC, despite the club's recent improvement in form. Petach-Tikva have appointed Dror Kashtan as a replacement for David. "I feel sorry to leave, but at the same time I am leaving a healthy team for my successor," said the outgoing coach.
